ASSISTANCE is at hand for villagers wanting to know which roads are affected and which services have been altered for the duration of the three-day Silverstone Grand Prix.
A multi-agency leaflet, which has been distributed in the community by Silverstone Circuits, gives full details of what to do and where to avoid.
And a full breakdown of diversions and traffic restrictions for the villages of Silverstone, Whittlebury and Wood Burcote, Syresham and Dadford can be found on the Northamptonshire Police website –
www.northants.police.uk/silverstone. The A43 will be closed to through traffic between Towcester and Syresham on Friday (04/07), Saturday (05/07) and race day, Sunday (06/07), to allow a one-way system to operate for motorists travelling to the circuit. The one-way system will be in place between 4.30am and 9pm.
Insp George Cooper, of Northants Police stressed only the A43 would be one-way on Friday – all other road systems will operate as normal.
Restrictions in parts of Silverstone on Saturday and Sunday will only allow access to residents and taxi drivers.
Cowpastures - the road between Whittlebury and the A5 - will be one-way on Saturday and Sunday afternoons only.
Insp Cooper added: "The recent experience in the villages has been that of little disruption but alternative routes should be planned and can be done so quite easily. Journey times of course will be slightly longer than usual. The decision to close the A43 on the Friday has been made not just for the benefit of racegoers. It has also been made to take into account the safety and convenience of non-Silverstone traffic and to prevent these people being held up by vehicles heading to the circuit. We do realise that in many cases the Friday closure will have more of an impact on journeys than the Saturday or Sunday restrictions and we are working together with our partners to minimise the disruption to residents, drivers and local services."
Detailed maps of the diversion routes and one-way systems throughout the Grand Prix weekend can be viewed on the website.
