IN October 1981 a team of 10 members of he Silson Joggers finished second in a 12-mile mini-marathon at Billing Aquadrome, Northampton, collecting a prize of £150 which was donated to the Stoke Manadeville Hospital Appeal.
With 750 runners negotiating a muddy course it was an achievement to finish at all so the Silson effort was particularly commendable.
Silson Runners were Graham Linnell, Hallam Carr, Robert Cameron, Don Willers, David Amos, Leigh Pettifer, Gerald Lovell, Roger Mills, Tim Pettifer and John Beezhold with David Lowe acting as team organiser.

...THE St Lawrence Church graveyard at Winslow is to be closed in 1983. This unexpected news was received by Winslow Town Council, by letter, from the Paraochial Church Council.
...THERE was much to interest passers-by in Well Street when builders stripped the facing off No 54 to reveal a fine example of wattle and daub walling. The timber framing dating from about 1600.
...RABBITS, cats, dogs, caged birds and even a pony were among many animals who attended a Service for the blessing of pets held in the Parish Church at Great Horwood.

THE Bicester & Warden Hill Hunt have a placed a tablet in memory of the late Lord Chesham in Stratton Audley Church, and it is intended to hold a memorial service in the church on Tuesday, October 13, at which the tablet will be unveiled.
A GOOD company assembled at the Royal Oak, Gawcott, on Tuesday, when Mr Thomas Osborne offered for sale a grocer's shop and dwelling-house and two cottages. Bidding was very brisk, and the two lots were sold to Mrs W Thomason, of Uxbridge (formerly of Gawcott), for £132.10s. and £47 10s., total £180.

THE annual All Night Rally of the Buckingham and District Motor Club was run on Saturday last. A course of some 170 miles was covered by 14 competitors starting from Portway Garage Twyford at 11pm. The route was divided into three main sections - Cheltenham, Edge Hill airfield and the final section at Great Horwood.
THE new Roman Catholic Church, St Mary Magdalene, at Stony Stratford, was filled with friends from a wide area for the service of dedication on Thursday week by Mgr. Leo Parker, Bishop of Northampton, who also performed the blessing.
A UNIQUE event took place in Wolverton last Saturday morning, when Bands from Potterspury, New Bradwell and Wolverton joined forces in a Massed parade through the town and finally gave a short concert in the Square. For this celebration of Wolverton Town Band's 50th anniversary.

TOWCESTER cinema - one of the town's best known landmarks - "died" this week aged 43 - killed by disinterest and finally reduced to rubble and dust by the demolition experts. Built by the first Lord Hesketh as a gift for his wife, the 890-seat cinema was once the pride of the county.The cinema closed on June 30, 1973, never to open again. The building became derelict - an eyesore target of vandals.
BUCKINGHAM University's 30 ton former motorway bridge was swung into position spanning the mill stream, forming a link between the Hunter Street campus and the car park. The bridge could only be lifted with the aid of a massive 200 ton lift crane.
