IN February, 1986, Adkin estate agents of Bicester held a successful property auction at St Edburgs Church hall on the evening of Friday, February 19, 1986, when they offered for sale the former Magistrates Court buildings and Police House, a freehold property situated at 8 Church Street, Bicester.
Bidding commenced at £60,000 and at £90,500 the property was knocked down to Messrs. Fennell, Blake & Co., of Oakley, Buckinghamshire.
The property was offered with the benefit of planning consent and Listed Building consent for the formation of three dwellings from the whole building.
Also from the Advertiser in 1986:

  • RECENTLY, a new stone out-door exit has been erected to Buckingham Workhouse for the removal of the inmates in case of fire, and last week the further guarantee of protection was given by the appearance of the Fire Brigade who, with 200 yards of hose, threw a good jet of water some 10 feet over the top of the workhouse.

  • ON Monday night an exceptionally large and brilliant meteor was seen in the Buckingham district. The heavens were unusually clear and the meteor was seen for some time and eventually left a long train of fire in its course.

  • FOR some years past, the Buckingham Rural District Council; have occasionally discussed the purchase of a steam roller and plant, but nothing definite has been arrived at. Now, however, there appears some prospect of more decisive action and a special committee has been appointed to enquire into, and report on, the question.

  • AN additional challenge cup has been donated for competition at Buckingham Show and it will be awarded for the best trade exhibit. Making the announcement at the annual general meeting of North-West Bucks Agricultural Association, held at the White Hart Hotel, Buckingham on Tuesday, Mr George Richardson, Joint Hon. Secretary, said that for the time being he did not propose to reveal the name of the donor of the trophy.

  • RECENTLY we have received letters from readers suggesting that we publish a weekly crossword puzzle, and so to test the appeal we have arranged with a Fleet Street compiler to send us an exclusive puzzle for a month. We will send 7/6d to the reader who submits the first correct solution.

  • BUCKINGHAM'S Well Street First School was absolutely staggered when a fundraising auction netted £1,200 for the school's PTA last Thursday evening. Organisers had been expecting a profit of around £300! Everything from good quality antique pine furniture, to old attic junk, was snapped up - perhaps the oddest item to come under the hammer was an 8lb Cheddar cheese.

  • TOWCESTER'S first purpose-built industrial estate moved nearer reality this week when South Northamptonshire District Council approved the setting aside of £150,000 in their 1984-85 estimate towards development costs. A site has already been chosen close to the SNDC headquarters in Brackley Road and the total estimated cost of the scheme is £300,000.

  • A PAIR of Admiralty plaques - one originally presented to Buckingham Borough Council and the other to Buckingham Rural District Council during the Second World War - are to hang together in the Council Chamber at the new Community Centre.
