ANN Blencowe was chosen as Miss Steeple Claydon 1962 by a panel of five judges which included Bill and Kay Luckwell, the film producers, Larry Martyn, who on the previous day completed his starring part in the film The Breath of Life, Hilary Martyn, his wife, who has appeared as Jean Baker, the girlfriend of PC Smith in the BBC television serial Z Cars, and Tony Inglis, who has designed the sets and decor for many films.
The contest, featured in a 1962 edition of the Buckingham & Winslow Advertiser, took place before a capacity crowd at the Library Hall during a dance for which the music was played by The Squires, a new group with Alf Annetts at the piano.
Also in 1962:...THE 1962 edition of the Royal Automobile Club's Guide and Handbook – a comprehensive motoring encyclopedia – was published in time for Easter Holiday motoring.
...THE annual Police Ball held at the Public Hall, Winslow, on Friday was an outstanding success, in fact, it was the best ever held.
...A SUCCESSFUL year with takings increased by £400 was reported at the AGM of Buckingham Women's Institute Market Stall, held at Maids Moreton Village Hall.
