JAMES Burke, the television and radio personality, was guest of honour at a meeting of Brackley Round Table at The Crown Hotel in January 1974.
Mr Burke, who was noted for his programme The Burke Special, gave a talk to members and guests from other Tables including Buckingham and Banbury and answered many questions on aspects of his television work and his experiences while collecting material for his programmes.
The picture shows Mr Burke with the then chairman of Brackley Round Table, Mr D Johnson.

...THE three-day week for factories, offices and shops came into force on Monday. Factories can use electricity on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays, for normal working. On the other days they will close unless they have made arrangements for use of alternative sources of power.
...DISC jockey Jimmy Saville inaugurated a new scheme at Stoke Mandeville Hospital when cheques totalling more than £7,000 were presented to the hospital. The scheme involves people who have contributed money to pay for extra amenities at the hospital being taken on a conducted tour of the wards.
...THE first show held by members of Winslow Wine Circle was such a success that it is hoped it may become an annual event.

THOSE at Buckingham workhouse spent a very happy time on Christmas Day thanks to the extra provisions granted by the Guardians, the gifts of friends, and the kindness of the Master and Matron.
ANOTHER old landmark is to disappear. The site of the old turnpike-gate house, situate at the cross-roads on the Brackley Road, leading to Buckingham, Shlastone, Gawcott and Stowe. is to be levelled and added to the main road, it will most certainly be a great improvement.
IN Ford Meadow, a friendly game of football was played between the town club and St Luke's Club, Northampton. Despite the excessive cold, there was good attendance of spectators, who were rewarded with a well fought game, which ended in a win for the home team by 3 goals to 2.
50 YEARS AGO
CHRISTMAS the season which many people complain is fast becoming a time to "eat, drink and be merry " without giving very serious consideration to the religious aspect of the festival - is now over, and the critics have been disproved for there have been increased congregations at nearly all the churches at Buckingham and district.
JANUARY Sale at L J Butler, 3 West Street, Buckingham - three piece suite reduced from £82/10/- to £65; blankets at 29/6 each. Everything reduced by at least 1/- in the £1.
WTH over 200 dancing to the music of Rod Bourton's band in the Town Hall, Buckingham Athletic Football Club's Boxing Night "fixture" was most enjoyable and successful.

BUCKINGHAM Squash Club's first team started off the new year in great style by beating second in the table Hampden 4th 3-2 in their Bucks League clash on Tuesday.
SISTER Genevieve, headmistress and Mother Superior of the Thornton Convent of Jesus and Mary, on Monday turned the first sod of the land on which the school's £300,000 sports hall will be built.
LOCAL MP Reg Prentice admitted last week that the Ministry of Defence have "a very strong case" for building a proposed 300 houses for American military personnel at RAF Croughton.
