IN 1978, two local drivers were included in the Classic Saloon Car Club's team competing in the annual six-hour relay race at Donnington.
They were Malcolm Golden of Adstock and Tony Kelly of Winslow.
Teams included Ferraris, Porsches, Aston Martins, Morgans and many major saloon and sportscar marques were expected to compete.
The team in which the two local drivers were included comprised of three Jaguars, one Vanguard Sportsman, one MG Magnette – all built before 1959 – and the oldest car racing in the Classic Saloon Car championship, a 1949 Jowett Javelin.
The Jowett Javelin (pictured) was raced by Kelly and Golden and was the world's only example of this make in competition form.
