THE Buckingham station of the Bucks Fire Brigade was strengthened in April 1971 by the delivery of a new water tender, a modern vehicle which cost about £7,000 and which contained equipment valued at over £1,500.
The tender was a Bedford vehicle with two Coventry Climax pumps, one portable and one fixed.

The fixed pump had a dual pressure rating, one being 'an exceptionally high pressure enabling the firemen to produce a fog-type spray.'
Only seven tenders with dual pressure pumps were in use in the county at this time.

The new tender also contained emergency rescue equipment.

The picture showed D/O Hunt after he handed over the water tender to Station Officer R Perrin. Also in the picture were members of the Buckingham section of the Fire Brigade.

  • Also from the Advertiser in 1971:

...PROSPECTS of a university being sited at Buckingham are "very optimistic indeed", Mr Bill Benyon MP for the Buckingham Division said at a recent meeting.
...FRIDAY, April 16, 1971, is the first day of the 1971 Census, the biggest survey in the history of the British people.
...MAXI, midi or mini – whatever the choice of dress length – they were all on display, with some striking examples of hot pants, at a fashion show held in Buckingham Town Hall.
