"EASTER Sunday 1985 will be a most important and memorable day for many families in Buckingham," it was reported in an edition of that year.
"It is the day when members of the Methodist Church and the United Reformed Church in the town see their churches come together as one – to be known henceforth as the Well Street Church (Methodist and United Reformed).

"Moves to achieve this goal have been proceeding during the past three to four years, and in practice the two congregations have been working and worshipping together for about a year now.

"But by Easter Sunday all the loose ends will have been neatly tied up and the congregations of the two 'Free Churches' will sing the joyful Easter Sunday hymns with one voice as one Church."

The picture shows Peter Conroy putting finishing touches to the new signboard he painted for the church.

  • Also from the Advertiser in 1985:

...A LISTED building with a difference, the historic River Ouse Bridge in the village at Leckhampstead which dates back to Tudor times, is to be closed on Monday and Tuesday while engineers investigate the carriageway foundation.
...BUCKINGHAM Parish Church Restoration Fund has reached the £11,000 mark, including a huge £5,000 donation from the church-based Needle and Thread Society.
...BRACKLEY may benefit from bigger and better fire and police stations, on land off the Oxford Road, at the town's former southern railway station site.
