Stowe School
AT RISK - the Temple of British Worthies at Stowe School, one of the treasures in the public school grounds which needs care and cash to survive.
In 1987 the school launched the Stowe Garden Buildings Trust to help restore and maintain the garden's buildings - considered the greatest living works of art in England.
The responsibility for maintaining the 18th Century gardens became too heavy for the school in 1987.
A generation or two of neglect, said experts at the time, is all that was needed to destroy the landscape gardens forever.
Also from the Advertiser in 1987:

NOW the road in Stony Stratford is tarred there rises the question of the danger to horses, Supt. Lait complained that his horse was nearly down more than once. There is no question that the tar keeps down the dust and preserves the road, but if there is any danger to horses this possibly will only last while the tar is practically fresh.
