THREE former matrons of Brackley Cottage Hospital were honoured on May 24, 1988, when wards were named after them - and one of the ladies was present herself.
Miss Delia Frost was matron at the hospital for 26 years from 1961 until she retired in 1987 and was happy to take part in the ceremony.
She opened Merry ward named after Matron Merry who was in charge from 1920 to 1943 and paid tribute to her.
Although the ladies were not colleagues Miss Frost knew Matron Merry in later life as a friend and patient.
Kent Ward was opened by retired local GP Dr Norman Halse.
Matron Kent was at the hospital from 1943 until 1961.
In her time it was completely self-sufficient and everything used there was bought locally and they were not accountable to anyone financially.
Dr Halse then opened Frost Ward and paid tribute to Miss Frost's years of hard work and commitment.
Many former members of staff and patients were present at the ceremony.
