MAKING the ball go where you want it to blindfold is no easy task, even with a little help from your friends.
Pictured in 1987 was Steve Stipson, attempting to follow the shouted instructions of fellow Towcester Working Mens Club member, Maggie Tapp, in a bid to kick the ball out of a circle - avoiding unseen obstacles in the form of buckets full of water.
The game was just part of the fun at a 'It's A Knockout Contest in 1987 at Towcester Football Ground when some 140 supporters turned out in the rain to cheer on their teams.
Teams taking part were Greens Norton, Towcester and Cobblers Football Clubs, Towcester Football Club Supporters and the Working Mens Club.

  • HAYMAKING has commenced in and around Buckingham during the past week, and it is stated that the crops are very satisfactory. The work has been favoured with lovely weather.


  • 50 YEARS AGO
  • A MODEL of a Great Bible was shown to the boys and girls at the Buckingham Methodist Sunday School Anniversary. The model, perfect in every detail - the actual Bible could be read through a magnifying glass - had belonged to Her Majesty the Queen when she was a little girl and had come into the possession of Mr Gilbert Powell, the visiting preacher.

  • TOGETHER with the receipt for rates, was a receipted bill for coal purchased on February 29th, 1808, from Box, Gray and Co.'s Boat at the Buckingham Wharf. One ton of coal cost 28s. 4d. and a charge of 6d. was made for loading.

  • DISCUSSIONS over the growing number of parents in the north Buckingham district opting to send their children to the comprehensive Magdalen College School in Brackley has attracted the attention of Anglia Television as the subject of a half-hour 'Anglia Reports' to be screened at 10.30pm on Monday, June 27.
