THIS picture, taken in 1967, shows Wavendon Tower, the country mansion which became the headquarters of the Milton Keynes Development Corporation.
In this building the work of planning the new North Bucks city with an estimated population of 200,000, took place.
The designated area for the city totalled nearly 24,000 acres and comes to within eight miles of the eastern boundary of Buckingham.
Four planning consultants were invited to put proposals before the Corporation in order that one scheme might be chosen as the master plan for the new city.

...A WORKING Party consisting of one member from each local organisation in Marsh Gibbon, is to be set up to consider plans to erect a new village hall.
...TEN new school swimming records were created by girl and boy students at Buckingham's Royal Latin School at the school's senior and intermediate inter-house swimming gala held in the school's own new swimming pool.
...BUCKINGHAM Hospital is to be served by a League of Hospital Friends. A decision to form the League was made at a public meeting held at Buckingham Town Hall.

OWING to the slackness of trade, three of the leading Scotch ironmasters have decided to damp down about a dozen blast furnaces.
A BURGLAR broke into a hotel at Rendsburg, Germany, and was about to escape with his booty when he thought he would first write his initials and profession in the visitors' book. While he was thus engaged a waiter locked him in, and he was arrested.
THE question of limiting the speed of motor-cars when passing through Buckingham to ten miles an hour was before the town council last Monday, but it appeared that in order to possess such a bye-law considerable red tapeism is required.

RELEASED at Shalstone Fete three weeks ago, a balloon bearing label No.59 has been found in Methwold, Norfolk. This has been adjudged the winner and the holder of the counterfoil should communicate with Mr Geoffrey Purefoy, Shalstone Manor.
BUCKINGHAM Town Football Club is to convene a General Meeting to consider the re-formation of a Supporters' Club. This important decision meets the unanimous wish of the Management Committee, the players, and representatives of the Supporters' Club which was disbanded last year.
AFTER the torrential rains had flooded homes in Thornborough on Wednesday evening last week, the 71 Maintenance Unit, RAF Bicester "brought in" one of the latest type hot-air machines to dry out properties in the village.

HAMILTON House, in Buckingham's West Street, could become a private nursing home for the elderly, if planning permission is granted.
GREAT Moor Sailing Club near Calvert is among eight Buckinghamshire sports facilities to be recommended for Sports Council financial aid. The Club will receive a £1,500 grant and a £1,500 loan towards the £9,096 cost of extending their clubhouse.
ABOUT 100 people turned out for the second Towcester Deanery picnic held in Salcey Forest and principally arranged by the Vicar of Hartwelll, the Reverend Malcolm Walkey.
