A DEVELOPER has expressed an interest in building an 'eco settlement' to the north-west of Bicester.

The developer, P3 Eco, is considering Cherwell District Council's plan for a 5,000-home extension to Bicester's north-west boundary.

Devised as an alternative to the Weston Otmoor 'eco-town' proposed near Weston-on-the-Green, the North West Bicester plan could provide 5,000 jobs for local people if the government gives it the go-ahead.

Councillor Michael Gibbard, Cherwell District Council's head of planning, said: "We are convinced that a sensitive eco development at North West Bicester is a more appropriate location for an eco settlement than Weston Otmoor so I welcome the expression of interest we've received from P3 Eco.

"We are genuinely hopeful they'll produce ideas of real quality and distinction which will be sensitive to the site and surrounding areas."
Council leader Barry Wood said: "If the government selects NW Bicester, our first step will be to get the consortium to fully brief all councillors and thereafter engage with local people.
