WET weather did not prove to be a deterrent to people visiting Bicester Carnival on Sunday (06/07).
Around 3,000 people turned up to the event which was held at the Oxford Road sports ground and was based on a Caribbean theme.

The carnival launched with a wheelie bin race starting at the Plough and ending at the Littlebury Hotel, and continued with a parade which included a float in the style of Pirates of the Caribbean.

Local organisations held charity stalls and there was a birds of prey display, a dog and duck display, dancing by children from Fun and Flair, fairground rides, games and refreshments.

Carnival committee chairperson, Cllr Debbie Pickford, said: "I think the day was a great success despite the weather. Everyone enjoyed the wheelie bin race, the floats were very good and it was great that so many people participated."

She said the event raised in the region of £900 for the mayor's charities – Marie Curie Cancer Care, Bicester's 2507 ATC Squadron, the local Girl Guide organisation, and SERV emergency volunteer service – although the final amount had not yet been calculated.
