AN initiative aimed at getting unemployed people in Bicester back to work is being launched in the town next week.
Bicester Job Club is set to open its doors to the public on Thursday, with the aim of offering support and information to people at all stages of job-hunting as well as offering guidance to those considering setting up their own business.
The open
ing of the Bicester Job Club comes hot on the heels of the success of a similar venture in Banbury.
Both projects have been set-up by Bicester MP, Tony Baldry with the support of Cherwell District Council and Oxon County Council.
This week Bicester mayor James Porter said anyone could be faced with the threat of unemployment and added his support for the club.
Mr Porter said: "It is awful when someone is made unemployed, it can be very traumatic, not only for the person involved but for their families as well, so I'm very supportive of this initiative.
"The town has had its fair share of unemployment due to the downturn like everywhere else and hopefully this club will prove as successful as the one in Banbury."
The club will meet every two weeks on a Thursday and local employers, including Bicester Village and Iceland, will also attend these meetings.
The skills and advice being offered will range from preparing a CV and application form, to interview techniques, along with financial
guidance.
John Hoad, CDC's strategic director for planning housing and economy, revealed 30 people had already said they will be attending the club's first meeting.
Mr Hoad added: "In these difficult economic times looking for a new job is harder than ever.
"The council is committed to maximising opportunities for job seekers and it's good to see so many organisations coming together in one place every two weeks to offer help."
The launch of Bicester Job Club is being held at the King's Arms Hotel in Market Square on Thursday, June 11 between 11am and 1pm
