A SERIOUSLY-ILL five-year-old girl has seen her dream of meeting Peter Pan and appearing on stage with an international ballet company come true.
Jade Sewell, of Cheshire Drive, Upper Heyford, was diagnosed with neuroblastoma – a rare form of cancer affecting the nervous system – in September 2006.
Unfortunately, after 15 months of chemotherapy, doctors at The Children's Hospital in Oxford diagnosed her condition as terminal.
The Make-A-Wish Foundation, a charity which helps children's wishes become a reality, stepped in and gave Jade two special gifts.
Last September they organised a trip to Disneyland Paris where Jade met her fairytale hero Peter Pan and was 'married' to him in a mock wedding ceremony.
Her 26-year-old mother Nikki said: "Jade has always adored Peter Pan, she has all the DVDs where he appears.
"She has always said that when she was older she would marry him and have a house and two children who would be able to keep Captain Hook away."
Jade, a pupil at Tackley CofE Primary School near Kidlington, also has a love of dancing.
So earlier this month the foundation arranged for her to appear on stage with the Russian Chisinau National Ballet at the New Theatre in Oxford, during the company's performance of The Nutcracker.
Mrs Sewell added: "We only told her two days beforehand because we knew we wouldn't hear the end of it.
"When we did explain it to her she said 'I'm going to be famous!' She was so excited, jumping around the room asking when we were going."
The experience was made even better when a member of the audience asked for her signature at the end of the night.
Jade has a 10-month-old sister, Hollie.
Mrs Sewell and husband Andrew, a self-employed electrician, thanked all nurses and doctors in Oxford but gave special thanks to consultant, Kate Wheeler, the Make-A-Wish-Foundation and Ellen Kent Ballet International, which helped Jade take centre stage in Oxford.
