A PROPOSAL to build four giant wind turbines at a farm near Bicester was turned down last week.

On Thursday night, members of Cherwell District Council's planning committee unanimously rejected a plan to create four 410ft energy-generating wind turbines at Willow Farm in Fewcott.

Despite the council's support for renewable energy generation in principle, councillors feared this proposal would have an adverse visual effect on the villages of Ardley, Fewcott and Fritwell.

Council planning officers had recommended the plans for approval, having followed the Government's national policy guidelines regarding the growing importance of renewable energy sources.

But officers had also pointed out what a large visual impact the wind farm would have on the local landscape – a factor that proved decisive for councillors.

A number of parish councils had also expressed their concern about the proposed development.
