RESIDENTS in the Bicester area could be visited as part of a drive to push up the rate of recycling in Cherwell district.
A team of staff from Cherwell District Council and volunteers will visit around 12,000 homes, including those in Bicester, Langford Village and Kirtlington, up until October 24.

The team will offer advice on what can be recycled in which box or bi
n, take new orders for extra containers, promote the 70 glass recycling sites across the district and let people know where they can take household batteries for recycling.

They will also advertise new recycling banks which can accept paper-based cartons for milk, juices, wine and some foods like chopped tomatoes, including a bank in Barberry Place, in Bure Park, in Bicester.

The doorstepping team will have official Cherwell District Council identity cards with them, will talk on the doorstep and will not ask to go inside.

They will also be happy to wait so residents can contact CDC to check their identity.

Cllr George Reynolds, CDC portfolio holder for community, health and the environment, said: "I want to congratulate the residents of Cherwell. Their recycling efforts mean we are very close to that 50% recycling milestone now.

"We're keen to get there as quickly as possible and then drive on towards even higher rates."

He added that increased recycling rates meant more taxpayers' money could be saved on landfill taxes. Further information on recycling can be found on CDC's website www.cherwell.gov.uk or by telephoning 01295 221940.
