THE last call is being made for entries to the annual Brackley Soap Box Derby, now in its seventh year.
Each year around thirty teams take it in turns to race home-made karts down the hill outside Magdalen College School in High Street.
This year's race is on Sunday, June 7 and includes two categories for the under 15s and adults. The two teams with the fastest average time over three runs are declared the winners.
Town councillor Peter Stocker arranged the first derby while he was mayor in 2003, and is still at the heart of the much-loved event.
Originally the event was designed to link two other town events organised by the Brackley Carnival Commitee, the community carnival – this year on Sunday, June 13 and The Music Festival which this year begins on Friday, June 26.
Cllr Stocker said there is still room for a few more entries but is expecting to see places fill up quickly as the Sunday, May 24 deadline draws closer.
Janene Thomas, landlady of the Greyhound Inn, High Street, entered the derby for the first time last year and won.
She enjoyed it so much she is sponsoring two karts this year, both rasing money for breast cancer research.
She said: "I have been at the pub for five years now and we are very
much a community pub. Last year we won the carnival float competition and I just think these events are a great way to promote community spirit."
