Point-to-point course to open

A NEW point-to-point horse-racing course is nearing completion in Whitfield near Brackley.
Point-to-point racing involves amateur steeplechasing over a three-mile, 19-fence course.
The new track at Manor Farm replaces a point-to-point course north of Banbury which closed in 2007.
Manor Farm has been owned by the Clarke family for several generations, and the new course was the brainchild of owner Martin Clarke.
His cousin Roger Clarke and Roger's son Andrew have done much of the construction work. Both are professional course builders and have been helped by Tony Howland, head groundsman at Cheltenham Racecourse.
Jump fences are still to be built, but a recent open day saw 150 point-to-point enthusiasts and local people visit to see the course.
Spokesperson Ruth Tutton said: "It is very rare that you get to walk the course eight months before it opens, I think that is a sign of how well planned it has been. The feedback has been good and we are really looking forward to the first meeting in May next year."
