A BUCKINGHAM woman who has been horrified by the scenes of devastation and suffering in her native Sri Lanka is appealing for help from local people.
Deidre Hall, pictured, landlady of the New Inn, is calling for donations of sheets and blankets which will be sent to Sri Lanka via a freight 'plane organised by the Buddhist Association in London.
Mrs Hall, who came to England 40 years ago, said she had contacted family in Sri Lanka and discovered they were all well as they live inland.
She said: "You can't fail to be moved by this. I know all those areas, the wonderful, beautiful coastlines, and it is devastating to see what is happening."
She added: "If anybody has any surplus blankets or sheets, although not duvets or pillows, we have room at the pub to store them before taking them to London."
The blankets and sheets will be flown to Sri Lanka along with medical supplies, on Monday, January 10, so all items must be delivered to the New Inn by Friday, January 7.
For details contact Deidre Hall at the New Inn on 01280 815713.
