VISITORS to Buckingham's Maids Moreton Avenue experienced aboriginal culture when people were invited to make journey sticks at a recent workshop.
The Buckingham Community Wildlife Project invited people to take a walk along the avenue and then decorate a stick with natural materials as a memento of their day.
Susan Le, officer at the project who took the participants on a guided walk, said: "On our return, we collected sticks and found natural materials including stones and conker husks.
"The visitors told their own story by putting all the items they found on their stick to remind them of their experience."
She added that Australian Aborigines used to go on walkabouts over several days and because it was a culture based around story-telling, they would collect souvenirs on their way to remind them of their journey instead of writing their experiences down.
