COUNCILS across the Advertiser and Review region are braced for possible strike action by some members of staff today, Thursday, July 17.
Two of the main public service unions, Unison and Unite, have called a strike in protest against a 2.45% pay increase.
Oxfordshire County Council is not expecting any major disruption to services as a result of the industrial action, although a smal
l number of schools will be closed on one or both days.
Only 13% of the council's 20,000 members of staff, which includes teachers and firefighters, are members of the unions that will be engaging in the industrial action.
Oxon County Council said it will not become clear until after the two-day period what proportion of that 13% of staff attended work. Unions representing teachers and firefighters are not involved in the industrial action.
Bardwell School in Bicester announced a partial closure today. The school is closed to Blue, Red and Yellow Groups, but is open to groups 1, 2, 3 and 4 on July 16, 17 and 18.
This morning a spokesperson for South Northants Council said the number of workers on strike would become clearer as the day went on but urged householders to put out their wheeled bins and recycling boxes as normal.
Roade School Sports College was one of the few mainstream schools in Northants affected by the strike.
Services provided by Aylesbury Vale District Council will run as normal today and tomorrow.
Anyone due to have their rubbish or recycling collected on either day is asked to put their bins out before 6.30am and they will be collected as normal.
Schools across Bucks are due to remain open.
