AN action-packed Buckingham Festival Fortnight begins on Friday

Week One is the long-established Buckingham Summer Festival, now in its 21st year, which will offer a variety of classical
concerts and recitals, while Week Two will include comedy, art displays, games and live music.

The fortnight is organised by the Buckingham Summer Festival committee in conjunction with Aylesbury Vale District Council and Buckingham Town Council.

Councillor Robin Stuchbury, chairman of Buckingham Town Council's events committee, said: "This year our two councils have tried to bring more varied activities into the festival fortnight, working in partnership with different local organisations to create an event fitting for a market town.

"We hope to have provided something of interest to everyone."
The week of classical music will run from Saturday, July 4, to Saturday, July 11.

One of this year's major highlights is a performance of the London Mozart Piano Trio on Monday, July 6. The trio, described as one of the most exciting chamber ensembles to emerge in recent years, regularly play at festivals and music society gatherings around the UK and abroad.
Other highlights include performances of Buckingham Choral Society, Scottish singers Caledon, pianist Haruko Seki, the Maurizi Ensemble and jazz-baroque fusion group Respectable Groove.

The Buckingham Summer Festival will end with a gala concert in the Church of St Peter and St Paul on July 11, featuring the Orchestra of Stowe Opera and Czech mezzo-soprano Edita Randova.

Highlights from the second week include comic Adam Hills, the annual boules tournament in the Old Cattle Pens, and live music from young bands with the town's Band Jam group.

Local traders will also host an arts trail for the first time this year, with displays of work including ceramics, paintings and photographs in several venues around the town.

The second week will finish with a free family fun day in the town centre, running from 11am to 4pm. Live music, a climbing wall, circus skill lessons, street entertainment and a craft market will be available.
