LOYAL members of the Buckingham Royal British Legion Women's Section have celebrated the group's 80th anniversary.
Guests at a special service in Buckingham's Church of St Peter and St Paul included Buckingham Town Mayor Councillor Hedley Cadd, Lady Buckinghamshire, and officers and cadets from the Milton Keynes Sea Cadet Corps as well as guests from the Bletchley and Winslow Royal British Legion Women's Sections.
Chairman Joyce Smith said it was a proud moment for the group.
She added: "We've kept the war memorial decorated with flowers and supported the Remembrance Sunday parade all through the years before the men's division – nearly 27 years – so we're very proud of our 80th anniversary."
Formed in 1929, the Buckingham Women's Section still has a dedicated membership including Emma Richardson, who is set to celebrate her 100th birthday next year, and Betty Knibbs, who took over the role of standard bearer from her mum.
The service was led by the Rev Philip Derbyshire and the Rev Paul Wigfield, and local man Philip Armstrong was praised for a fine rendition of Amazing Grace.
