LEADERSHIP of Bucks County Council and Aylesbury Vale District Council remained the same following elections this week. (14-15/05)
Cllr David Shakespeare OBE is leader of Bucks County Council for an eighth year, while Cllr Bill Chapel continues as deputy leader.

The county's cabinet - Cllr Mike Colston, Cllr Marion Clayton, Cllr Lin Hazell, Cllr Margaret Dewar, Cllr Frank Downes, Cllr Martin Tett and Cllr Val Letheren - was also unchanged.

Cllr Shakespeare cited ongoing successes including higher than average GCSE results, exceptional Key Stage 2 maths and English results, a 40% household waste recycling rate and initiatives to support elderly people.

He said 'Team Bucks' remains committed to delivering quality services and making savings through working in partnership with district councils.

Councillors John Cartwright and Netta Glover were re-elected as Aylesbury Vale District Council leader and chairman respectively.

Cllr Cartwright, who represents the Grendon Underwood ward and has been leader since 2001, said it was an honour to be re-elected. He added: "We will focus on increasing recycling, regenerating sites across the district and keeping council taxes to a minimum."

Cllr Glover will serve a second year as chairman, with Cllr Janet Blake as vice-chairman.

Cllr Glover said: "I'm proud to carry out my civic duties at the many events I'm invited to attend on the council's behalf. It's a great way for me to get to find out about the work others do and to get to know people from all across the district."
