Village is host to scarecrow fun

BIRDS had good reason to avoid Maids Moreton last Saturday when the third annual Scarecrow Harvest was staged.
More than 22 village residents created scarecrows for the event, organised by members of St Edmund Church.
The theme this year was scarecrows from around the world, and the fun raised £256 towards the upkeep of the church.
Judges gave the award for the best exhibit to a French scarecrow by Yvonne Harper, and they were also impressed by a display by children from Maids Moreton Pre-school Playgroup who decorated each of their scarecrows with flags. The pre-school received the runner-up prize.
Churchwarden Georgie Christopher thanked those who helped with refreshment at the church and added: "Scarecrows are closely associated with the countryside and it is nice to recognise that link.
"Also it is a lovely way to get the whole village involved no matter what age they are.
"We hoping we get more entries next year and see the event gradually expand."
The Scarecrow Harvest ended on Sunday morning with a church service attended by village residents and their scarecrows.
