VICTIMS of last year's July floods in Buckingham now have access to a new on-line forum which has been created by a town resident.
Lewis North, who lives in Bridge Street, launched the site following a public meeting in the community centre in February where representatives from the Environment Agency, local authorities and emergency services attended to hear residents' concerns.

Mr North, 30, was himself a victim of the floods. The ground floor of his home was under three feet of water, damaging the kitchen and furniture and destroying treasured photographs.

Mr North said: "We went to the meeting held in the community centre and the website came out of that. I thought this would be a good way to provide a focus point."

He hoped the site would allow people to learn from each other's experiences of flooding, to share advice, and talk about how cleaning-up operations have gone since.

He added: "We also want to speak to the town council and invite it to use this as a point of reference so people can keep track of what's going on."

He also hoped the Environment Agency and other related bodies would post items on the website, and tips on how to prepare for flooding could be included.

Flooding is going to be an on-going issue for five or 10 years and hopefully this website will become a resource," Mr North said. The website address is www.buckinghamfloods.org

Volunteer moderators are also being sought to monitor activity on the site.

The second phase of flood alleviation works to the River Great Ouse took place this week, when the Environment Agency arranged for work to be carried out to trees overhanging the river. The scheme follows river dredging carried out by the Buckingham and River Ouzel Internal Drainage Board last week.
