AROUND 550 people visited a farm near Stowe on Sunday as part of Open Farm Sunday.
Richard and Rosemary Hilsdon, who own Boycott Farm, allowed visitors to find out more about farming and the local countryside.

Farms all over the country took part and the theme this year was feeding your senses – which involved taking in the scenery, listening to birds and experiencing the smells of the farmyard.

Visitors to Boycott Farm took part in tractor and trailer rides, and were allowed to view up close the farm's free range hens, Gloucester Old Spot pigs and Aberdeen Angus cattle.

They were also informed of the history behind the farm and its produce and there were pony rides and refreshments, including cream teas, in aid of the Stowe Church Roof Appeal. A barbecue allowed visitors to taste produce from the Boycott Farm shop.

Representatives from FWAG (Farming & Wildlife Advisory Group) and Natural England spoke to visitors about the crops grown, wildlife in the area and conservation projects undertaken by farmers.

Richard Hilsdon said:"It was fantastic to see so many people, young and old, having such a great time. Our aim of today was for everybody to have fun and hopefully learn a little about life on the farm and where our food comes from. Judging by the extremely positive feedback and comments, we certainly achieved that."
