TRADITIONAL sweets have always been a favourite for young and old, from pear drops to bon-bons.
Now a new shop has opened in Towcester which sells a wide range of sweets and chocolates for people wanting to reminisce and for children discovering the world of sweets their parents and grandparents used to know.

John and Maxine Brimblecombe run The Little Sweet Shop on the Corner, in Park Street, which they opened around four weeks ago after Mr Brimblecombe left his job as a Tesco Express store manager in Milton Keynes.

On the ground floor, the sweet shop has pine shelves full of jarred sweets, while upstairs is a range of fare including hand-made chocolates. The store has a chocolate fountain running most days.

Mr Brimblecombe said running the sweet shop was less like work and more like fun.
He said: "What we want to provide is a safe environment for children to come into the shop, to be given the freedom to walk around and where they can learn to make selections and use money.

"Many of the adults come in to reminisce. In fact we had an elderly gentleman in the other day, who must have been in his 80s, buying gobstoppers."

The store, which makes candyfloss at weekends, has access to around 450 different types of sweets.

Mr and Mrs Brimblecombe, who live in Towcester, have a seven-year-old daughter, Heather.
