HERE are the Club reports for 27/03.
Charndon Community Association

The quizmaster will be John Braybrook.

The Film Place

TODAY, Friday, The Film Place is showing Man On Wire (12A), 8pm. It is set in August 7, 1974 – when, in New York, early that morning, a young Frenchman, Philippe Petit, set out to perform a high-wire walk across the void between the Twin Towers.
This momentous act caused quite a sensation at the time but, recreating not only the event itself but documenting the background to it, now gives it an uplifting, bittersweet status.
Tomorrow, Saturday, you can see Burn After Reading (15) at 7.30pm.
It is a spoof spy comedy with an A-list cast.
Both films can be seen at the Ian Fairbairn Lecture Hall, at the Chandos Road Building at the University of Buckingham.

Buckingham Choral Society

REHEARSALS are progressing well under the expert direction and guidance of the society's new musical director, Julian Mann, for the Society's Spring Concert on Saturday, April 4, in Buckingham Parish Church at 8pm.
Tickets are available from The Duke's Music, Market Hill, Buckingham, and Tourist Information Centre, The Old Gaol, Buckingham, prices £13, £12 concessions (advance sales only), £5 under 16s.
This is the first in a series of celebratory concerts by the society during this year to celebrate 150 years of choral music in Buckingham.
The society was known as the Amateur Philharmonic Society back in 1859 and had a membership of around 40 – today we have around 100 members and still growing – new members always welcome!
The society will be performing two well-known choral works – Mozart's Mass in C Minor and, in commemoration of the 200th anniversary of Joseph Haydn's death, his magnificent Nelson Mass.
The society will be joined by members of the Orchestra of Stowe Opera and young talented soloists from the Royal Academy of Music.
Tickets for this popular concert are selling quickly so don't miss out!
For further information about the society and membership, please go to our website: www.buckinghamchoral.org.uk.

Buckingham Acoustic Club

IT was again Dave Crawford's turn to host the evening and it was a busy one indeed, even with a few regulars missing.
Dave kicked us off with a self-penned song called Song For Us before he turned to some favourite covers including Make You Feel My Love, May You Never and Sweet Baby James.
Alex then gave us his Nirvana set, which was well received, interspersed with an original song too.
Becks was new to the club, but clearly a confident performer, and she sang songs spanning the last three decades – great covers of Annie Lennox, Green Day and Counting Crows – more of the same please!
Next on were Rock Symphony, who gave us some originals, as well as Behind Blue Eyes, the Limp Bizkit version.
Getting better each time we hear them. They even have a CD for sale!
Chris Lydon was in fine voice, with some cracking covers including Only You.
Good to hear him again too.
Then we had Udo Dolz who played us some fine finger-picked tunes, always a pleasure to listen to Udo's playing.
Last but not least, Fraser closed the evening with songs from such luminaries as Fats Waller and The Beatles as well as some originals – truly a musical journey, all on a lovely sounding National guitar.
Another great evening for both performers and audience.
Lots of original songs as well as covers – something for everyone at The New Inn, so make next week your week to come along to the Buckingham Acoustic Club Open Mic Night – starts around 8.30pm every Wednesday.

Maids Moreton WI

UNFORTUNATELY, February's meeting had to be cancelled due to the snow and icy conditions, so it was nice to see a good turnout of members this month.
Our president told us that due to the cancellation we will have a meeting in August this year.
The rules of the WI state that a certain number should take place over a 12-month period, so please make a note in your diaries for Wednesday, August 12.
Something else to look forward to in the summer months.
There is certainly plenty happening, rambles and various outings.
Our speaker was Jean Orford with the intriguingly title Pocketful of Posies, a miscellany of verse, jokes and observations on life in general.
Judging by the laughter of the audience, many of us could relate to these.
Jean finished off by producing a wonderful flower arrangement, making it all look so easy.
A really enjoyable meeting.
The group meeting will take place on Thursday, April 23, at Buckingham Community Centre and the speaker this year is Mary Berry, the well-known cookery writer.
Tickets are £5 and you can contact Ann or any committee member for more details.
Our next meeting will be on April 8 when the speaker will be Mr Flaxman talking about The Real Lark Rise, something very topical and close to home.
The competition will be for an egg cup.

The Society of Friends

ARE there any Quakers in the area who are interested in meeting other Quakers?
If so, please call 01280 822780.

Brackley European Association

AT its recent meeting, members were informed that getting information for our trip to our French twin town, Pavillons, over the weekend of May 29 to June 1 was pressing on. Chair Anita Robbins was waiting on quotes from a couple of local coach firms to take us to St Pancras, but the situation isn't helped by the railway company not accepting bookings until three months before travelling.
Details are also being explored on hiring a minibus and taking ourselves over.
Later in the year, with a longer than usual four-day weekend, Thursday, September 17 to Tuesday, September 22, we are drawing up a programme for our German friends from Montabaur.
One vital part is a visit to Hook Norton Brewery on the Friday – so watch this space!
For more information on the European Association and its activities contact Anita Robbins on 01295 712388 or Keith Bristow on 01295 252931.

Marsh Gibbon WI

THE president, Doreen North, welcomed members to the meeting.
Members discussed what items to put on the Marsh Gibbon stall at Calvert Green's Spring Craft Fair at their village hall on Saturday, April 4 from 10am to 1pm.
We were also pleased to hear that the Plough Inn in Marsh Gibbon is one of Aylesbury Vale's Recommended Village Pubs.
Stephanie North told us that most of us wear 20% of our clothes 80% of the time and tells both men and women how to achieve a look unique to them.
Doris Goss won the ballot to receive Stephanie's advice.
She enjoyed having colours draped over her to see which suit her best.
She thanked Stephanie for coming and said that she had thoroughly enjoyed the experience.
The tea hostesses were Lyn Fidler and Maureen Speight.
Our next meeting will have a talk entitled Living with Thalidomide.
The meeting will take place in Marsh Gibbon Village Hall on Wednesday, April 1 at 7.30pm.
