Here are the club reports for week commencing February 27...
Buckingham Fairtrade Town Steering Committee
FAIRTRADE Fortnight takes place until March 8, and to mark it there will be the annual Traidcraft coffee morning in the Salvation Army Citadel in Moreton Road from 10am to noon tomorrow, Saturday.
A Fairtrade stall will be there too, as well as local produce from the Swan Market.
Café Ignite at the parish church will have Traidcraft goods on sale during the morning.
In previous years we have had displays on the charity stall, but so many people have asked whether they may buy the produce that we have decided to have a stall on the market this year with produce and crafts on sale.
Please come along and have a look at the wide variety of goods that can be obtained with the Fairtrade logo, and learn about the positive impact that your purchases of Fairtrade products can have on the lives of poor producers in developing countries.

The dates for the league's house-to-house collection has been moved this year to May 9-23.
We have moved the dates to make it safer for our collectors who last year found that they were collecting in the dark evenings.

The talk by George Fenemore scheduled for February 2 was postponed due to adverse weather conditions and it is hoped this will take place on Monday, November 2.

Buckingham Acoustic Club
IT was Dave Crawford's turn to host the evening and what a cracker it was.
Once the PA was set up, Dave opened the evening with a new cover of Make You Feel My Love, an old Bob Dylan song. His set also included Amie, Bring 'em Home, May You Never, Hallelujah and Sweet Baby James.
Karol was next up with three self-penned tunes which he delivered in his usual accomplished style.
Alex gave us versions of the Foo Fighters Long Road To Ruin, Steve Earle's Guitar Town and Jose Gonzales' Hints.
Gareth and Nick followed with some great guitar riffs from Nick and gritty vocals from Gareth – Anastasia's Everything Burns and The Dandy Warhols Bohemian Like You. Great stuff lads.
A newcomer to the club, playing with his proud dad John, was Lori Howarth.
They used four guitars in their set which started with an original called Tonterias (Nonsense in Spanish), then a jazzy blues instrumental with some lead guitar from Lori before John gave us two of his own songs including Typical Man which had the audience laughing.
Brian and Mike were on next and gave us a polished set including One Of These Days and All I Need. Then it was Hoolie's turn with covers of Slide Away by Oasis and the classic My Sweet Lord. He gets better each week so keep it coming Hoolie.
Udo again mesmerised us with his finger picking style, playing three original instrumentals for us.
Robert and Mike gave us Bob Dylan's You Ain't Goin' Nowhere and they were then joined by Christine who played a couple of songs including Don't Think Twice It's Alright. Mike Moyse then went solo for a few songs including The Cape and Anji.
Then there was just time to squeeze Paul Downhill and Alan Thompson in, who kindly invited Dave Crawford to join them for a finale which included Sweet Home Alabama, Sit Down and All Along the Watchtower, with C'Mon Everybody as an extra one that left us all smiling and wondering where the night had gone! Everyone seemed to have a great time at The New Inn, so why not make time to come along to a Buckingham Acoustic Club Open Mic night soon.
Starts around 8.30pm every Wednesday.

Steeple Claydon WI
THE first meeting of the year was brightened by Nigel Benford's much enjoyed talk on The Life of a Supporting Artist (Film Extra).
The following week we appropriately had our annual trip to the pantomime at MK, where a large group of us thoroughly enjoyed the wonderful scenery and costumes in this year's Peter Pan Production.
This month also saw the start of our craft club, where once a month we get together to learn new crafts and enjoy a quiet and peaceful evening.
We were also very pleased to receive a letter and small gift from Roto-o-Rangi, the New Zealand WI we are in contact with.
We meet on the second Tuesday of each month at 7.30pm in the village hall, visitors and new members always welcome.

Bicester Square Dance Club
SQUARE Dancing is one of the easiest dance forms to learn.
Four couples form a square and dance a pattern of moves sung or called by a caller. As with most activities, you need to be taught the basics. Learning the basic steps is easy – experienced square dance callers teach the moves and the names of the calls that are danced.
The moves are combined into whole dance patterns and are danced to a variety of music from Country and Western and all-time standards to current pop tunes.
The team of eight follows the calls – the moves flow from one to the next and the dancers move smoothly around the square, changing partners as they go. When the pattern concludes everyone finishes back with their original partner.
Come and join us at Langford Hall (next to Tesco Express,) Nightingale Place at 8pm on Tuesdays, or call Bob on 01869 600961.

Buckingham Amnesty Group
BOB Simpson brought his laptop so we could watch some Amnesty DVDs.
The first was made for children and was shown in at least 120 cinemas nationwide before High School Musical in recent months.
Although short, it introduces important ideas about the responsibilities we all share for other people's safety and prospects.
Buckingham's Annual Amnesty Lecture, arranged by the university and ourselves, is to be given on Tuesday, March 17 at 6.30pm in the Chandos Road building's main lecture theatre.
Professor Susan Edwards will chair the lecture, which will be given by Maggie Paterson who worked for a South African daily paper, The World, during the Apartheid regime. She has dramatic events to recount.
Professor Edwards is Dean of the Law School and a promoter of human rights.
Amnesty is supporting the brave women in Zimbabwe and their organisation, Women of Zimbabwe Arise.
Urgent appeals on behalf of people in Tunisia, Egypt and Mexico have gone out from Buckingham recently. The conflict in Gaza and Israel has required some desperate campaigning by ourselves and other groups.

North Bucks Carers
MANY carers stayed on for the AGM of our umbrella charity Buckingham and Winslow Community Care Forum on January 28.
The Rector of SS Peter and Paul, the Reverend Kevin Ashby, as chair, proposed changes to the constitution which included a name change for the forum to Community Care North Bucks which was agreed as it was felt it made the purpose of the organisation clearer (ie being concerned with supporting in a practical way vulnerable and disadvantaged groups in our local community).
Currently the newly named CCNB manages through its trustee board three groups, the hospital car service which has 24 volunteer drivers and undertakes many hundreds of trips each year, North Bucks Carers and YC2 young carers youth club.
In order to comply with recognised principles, the trustee board has also agreed to increase insurance cover for all three groups, the election of a dedicated safeguarding officer and separate accounting systems for the groups as well as adopting advised policies and practices used by Bucks County Council.
Everyone was sorry to hear that Kevin is moving to another parish in Melton Mowbray as he has been a reliable, progressive and supportive chairman throughout his years in Buckingham, but we all wished him well in his new parish.
For the time being Keith Croxton as vice chairman will take over his role so that there is a constant to the excellent work that CCNB continues to do within the local area.
On February 11, despite the snow, we had a good turnout for a very informative talk about paying for nursing home costs that threw a great deal of light on an often worrying issue.
All those theatre-bound to see David Essex at MK had a light lunch at the community centre before setting out for a lovely afternoon enjoying the musical delights of All the Fun of the Fair.
Sharon is now at both the Buckingham meetings which means every carer has an opportunity to receive some of her free mini relaxation and beauty treatments that we all find so beneficial.
IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT: A Saturday coach trip to the Great Western Retail Park has been booked for March 7, leaving from the bus station outside Masonic House surgery at 9am and arriving home early evening.
It's been three years since our last trip to this retail park (and it is one of the best), which is entirely under cover with a wide range of outlets including John Lewis homewares, M & S, Boots, and many familiar chains. There are plenty of different food facilities including good old fish and chips and pizzas.
Next door is a Railway Museum for those who would like a respite from the tempting shops.
Margo has also acquired books of even more discount vouchers which shall be handed out on the coach.
The cost for any carer, former carers even those not currently connected to our group, will be £5 and to everyone else £10 which will include a tip for the driver. Young carers and their families are welcome and the cost for young carers will be met by YC2 young carers youth club, and families are, of course, treated as carers and a special rate will be made.
Please contact Carol on 01280 815512 asap as the date is coming up fast!
For all other queries about forthcoming events please ring Carol or Margo on 01280 817420. Our next meeting is on March 11.
The social mornings are held at Buckingham Community Centre on the second and fourth Wednesday of the month from 10am to 12.30pm and lifts for Winslow and area carers can be arranged

St John Ambulance Bucks and Milton Keynes
ST JOHN Ambulance is one of the world's largest youth organisations and the charity can act as a useful stepping stone for those wishing to pursue a career in medicine and the health profession. The LINKS arm of St John Ambulance is led by students and provides first aid cover for their universities and the wider community.
Regularly meeting throughout term time, LINKS is a great place to get to know new people, and social events are held in addition to partaking in first aid duties. The LINKS can offer many different opportunities to volunteer within the local community.
As the LINKS groups are completely student-run there is the opportunity for members to take leading roles in the management of the group.
Although the primary aim of university is obviously to get an academic qualification, it is also about broadening the horizons of young people, and encouraging them to try new things.
St John Ambulance's LINKS service certainly provides this opportunity.
Existing members who move away from their local areas for academic reasons can join their new University LINKS group, and keep honing their first aid and training skills so that when they return home they're not too rusty!
St John Ambulance Buckinghamshire and Milton Keynes are currently in the process of setting up LINKS Units within Bucks New University and hoping to expand this to include the Open University in Milton Keynes and the University of Buckingham. For details about LINKS and St John Ambulance Buckinghamshire and Milton Keynes, please call 01296 744370 or visit www.sja.org.uk.

Winslow WI
IT is always a pleasure to hear an enthusiast talk on his subject and at our February meeting Edward Smallwood told us of the history of glass and its many uses.
The competition for a drinking glass was won by Valerie Alsford.
Our speaker in March is a Wimbledon Umpire and the competition is for a strawberry in any medium. There will also be a silent auction.

Buckingham Royal British Legion
NEW members and friends are always welcome to the meetings, which are held on the fourth Tuesday in the month not the first Tuesday in the month as stated in last week's report. The Advertiser & Review apologises for the error.

Charndon Community Association
CHARNDON Community Association is holding a quiz night on Friday, April 17 at 7.30pm at Charndon Community Centre. The cost is £5 per team, maximum four people.
To book please call Ann on 01296 738311 or Martin on 01296 730050. Give your team a quirky name!

Winslow and District Ramblers
MEMBERS were disappointed when Saturday, January 10, proved to be a foggy day for the walk from Broughton.
On January 18, Sarah and her son skilfully guided us on a route from Great Horwood to Adstockfields House and Adstock village.
Next, Priscilla led a triangular walk from Stony Stratford with a coffee stop at Cosgrove.
Don took folk up a ridge above the village of Stoke Goldington on January 25, through Stoke Park Road and Church Lane.
Geoffrey's varied walk from Haversham on Sunday, February 1, took place just before the snow fell.
Due to weather conditions only six took part in the morning walk from Waddesdon. For details of our March walks pick up a copy of our programme from Winslow library.

Buckingham Art for All
DUE to the snow on Tuesday, February 2, the AGM was cancelled and is now being held on Tuesday, March 3.
We look forward to seeing as many of our members as possible at the AGM.
This will be followed by demonstrations by Debs Last and Lindsey Graham.
Also a chance to book onto the trip to the Picasso exhibition at the National Gallery on April 21, leaving Buckingham at 8.45am.

Women's World Day of Prayer
BUCKINGHAM and North Bucks villages will be taking part in this annual service on Friday, March 6 at 11am at the church of St Edmund, Maids Moreton. Every year one country prepares the service and we hear about their country and customs. This year it is the turn of Papua New Guinea in the South Pacific.
We hope many will come to this service which will be just one of 5,000 in the British Isles.

Buckingham Twinning Association
WE are all ready for our three-day visit to Mouvaux over the weekend of April 3-5. The weekend will include various activities for the students of the Royal Latin School, Buckingham School, and students from Mouvaux; lunch with the Mayor; and a visit to Ypres.
Other events lined up for the association are a joint walk for Buckingham Walkers and Association des Ramdonneurs on March 15; a visit by Lycee Gambetta to the Royal Latin School on March 16-20.
A big event coming up is the Football Mini Tournament, between seven countries, in Mouvaux on May 30/31 when the Moretonville Boys Football Club will be attending. There is the usual Boules competition on July 14 and looking ahead, we are taking a stall to the Mouvaux Christmas Market on December 4-6. Our next meeting is on March 4 at the Old Town Hall at 7.30pm so please join us.

Scouts
OVER the weekend some of the local Scout troops were taking part in all sides of the Lions Club of Winslow/Up & Running's Winslow 10K.
1st Winslow Scouts were out on the course at 3K and 6K handing out the drinks to the runners while some of the leaders were on the other side, pounding the road. Alan Roberts from 1st Grendon & Edgecott troop was the first leader home while David Legg of 1st Winslow was next and Roger Williams from 1st Tingewick was a further 90 seconds adrift of David.
If there are any young people in the Buckingham and Winslow area who have been inspired to take on these sorts of community challenges or adults who are up to these types of activities or leadership duties offered by the movement then you should contact the District Commissioner on 0845 83 82 847 who will point them towards a troop who has space to suit the age of the young person or a troop where the adults skills can be best utilised.
