Here are the club reports for week commencing June 5...
STEEPLE CLAYDON WI
OUR speaker this month was Doreen Kempton who showed us how to adorn presents and make flowers with ribbon.
After a very enjoyable lesson we were invited to have a go and we soon discovered that the ribbon had a mind of its own, and was not so easy to manage as the demonstration appeared to show.
However, we all enjoyed the evening so much we have decided to include an evening of ribbon art in our monthly craft evenings.
Other events attended were a wonderful drive through the Cotswolds ending with a guided tour of Prince Charles' garden at Highgrove.
The sun broke through the rain and we had wonderful weather for the two hour tour which was followed by tea and cakes.
The Brain Game day was also attended, where members were shown some of the secrets to solving cryptic clues given for crossword puzzles.
We meet on the second Tuesday of each month at the village hall at 7.30pm.
New members and visitors always welcome.

ALZHEIMER'S SOCIETY MEMORY CAFEAt the May meeting of our Memory Cafe we listened to a most helpful and informative talk from Jenny Churcher of Carers Bucks, her theme being Coping With Anxiety.
Jenny told us how to prevent anxiety attacks, if at all possible, and also how to manage them should they occur.
She also explained how our body reacts to stress and gave us several sensible, down-to-earth tips on how to cope.
Her talk was particularly useful for people with memory problems and those caring for them.
The next Memory Cafe takes place on Thursday, June 11 at the Well Street Centre in Well Street, Buckingham from 2pm to 4pm.
The speaker is Bev Waring from RNID who will speaking about Help With Hearing Loss.

THE FILM PLACE
THE Film Place are showing Frost/Nixon (15) today, Friday, at 8pm.
Swords and sandals they don't have, but the Frost/Nixon interviews have blood and guts a plenty in this dramatic confrontation.
Perfectly crafted by Peter Morgan first as a stage play, he has equally skilfully adapted the drama to the big screen.
And, in the hands of Michael Sheen and Frank Langella, the dialogue just seems to have got sharper and deeper with a greater range of emotional punches.
Tomorrow, Saturday, you can see Doubt (12A) at 7.30pm.
In 1964, a time of huge constitutional change in America, 'doubt' permeated the pillars of the establishment.
At St Nicholas' Catholic school in the Bronx, the strict regime is under the command of Sister Aloysius Beauvier (Meryl Streep).
Her code of moral authority is in stark contrast to the school's priest, Father Brendan Flynn, who introduces an element of fun into the school's traditions, and is especially friendly towards the school's first black pupil, Donald Miller.
Both films can be seen at the Ian Fairbairn Lecture Hall, Chandos Road Building, University of Buckingham.

This is expected to be a very popular concert, so don't delay buying your tickets.

BUCKINGHAM RAILWAY WALK CONSERVATION GROUP
VOLUNTEERS will be scything, raking, sawing and lopping along the Railway Walk tomorrow, Saturday.
Cutting and raking areas of grass in the sunny glades will help encourage the germination of the dormant seed banks exposed by the scrub clearance undertaken in the past.
Fallen wood in the form of twigs and branches can also be a barrier for seeds to grow, and moving the wood into habitat piles allows young shoots to push through the soil.
Insects, invertebrates and small mammals are using these habitat piles for food and shelter.
The summer sunshine interspersed with a few days of rain is rewarding gardeners and nature lovers alike.
Wild flowers, birds, insects, bees, butterflies and damselflies are all to be seen along the Railway Walk, and the fruit in the orchard is developing into a promising crop this year.
If you would like to help the wildlife along this walkway please come and join us.
We meet regularly on the first Saturday of the month at 10am in the university car park at the top of Station Road, Buckingham.
Everyone works at their own pace, and tools, safety equipment and light refreshments are provided.
For further details please contact Jenny Manning, co-ordinator, Buckingham Railway Walk Conservation Group on 01280 815223 or email railwaywalk@tiscali.co.uk.

BUCKINGHAM & DISTRICT WALKING GROUP
OUR long weekend away in the Peak District was well supported by about 25 of our members, staying at the Yorkshire Bridge Hotel near the Ladybower Reservoir.
We enjoyed splendid views from the peaks and ridges around the area and some delightful valley and woodland walks with an abundance of wild flowers in evidence.
We are now in the middle of our summer walks programme which takes us to the end of August.
Our fortnightly weekend walks are planned in a variety of interesting locations, including Culworth in West Northants, Great Tew in the Cotswolds, Coombe Hill in the Chilterns and a rare excursion into Rutland.
On August 2 there is a guided tour around some of the lesser known parts of Oxford and on August 29 we have one of our social events visiting Moggerhanger House and Park in Bedfordshire.
In addition, of course, the current programme includes details of our ever-popular monthly Wednesday walks where members can book a pub lunch combined with a figure of eight walk - in this programme the pubs are located at Bledlow, Hellidon, Croughton and Bulbourne near Tring.
Prospective members are always welcome to 'try us out' on any of the weekend walks without booking ahead.
