THESE are the latest reports from clubs around the region.
The Film Place
THE Film Place is showing Slumdog Millionaire (15) today, Friday, at 8pm and tomorrow, Saturday, at 7.30pm.
With so many awards to its name, Slumdog needs hardly any introduction.
It's a feel-good rags to riches story but what sets it apart from similar themed stories is the brilliant, shining energy of the cast and crew under the inspired direction of Danny Boyle.
The hero, orphan Jamal Malik, has a fairytale success in the Indian version of Who Wants To Be A Millionaire but, as in the best fairytale stories, the hero has also to overcome hardships, envy and loss.
Films can be seen at the Iain Fairbairn Lecture Hall, Chandos Road Building, University of Buckingham.
Furze Down School
FURZE Down School, Verney Road, Winslow, is holding its Spring Fayre on Saturday, May 9 from 10am to 4pm, free entry.
There are many attractions including miniature steam train rides, traction engines, archery, plus much more.
Stalls galore and raffle prizes.
Mursley Players
MURSLEY Players are holding their 30th annual production on May 1 and 2.
Titled MGMM, Mursley Goes Movie Mad, it features a number of colourful sketches based on films throughout the decades, from the days of silent movies to today's box office success, Mamma Mia.
Both performances have already sold out and all proceeds will, as in previous years, be donated to village and other charities.
Steeple Claydon WI
THIS month's speaker was Arthur Evans, who gave an amusing and informative talk of his time as a master at Waddesdon School.
We were very pleased to achieve joint third place at the BFWI annual quiz, and our team will go forward and represent us in the next round.
We were host to the group meeting – our speaker, who arrived dressed as a suffragette, was trying to encourage us all to join her at the following week's Votes for Women campaign.
The talk was amusing, but also very thought-provoking, as so many of the social issues of those days, which have been forgotten, were brought vividly to life, and some, such as the conditions in jail, were terrible to hear about.
The refreshments we provided were appreciated, and the evening was voted a resounding success.
We manned a stall at Calvert Green craft morning, which was well-attended, and a good community spirit prevailed.
Our monthly craft meetings continue to expand, and this month we are moving from cross-stitch to knitting scarves with fine wool.
We meet on the second Tuesday of each month at 7.30pm in the village hall; any visitors or new members will be made most welcome.
Treehouse Pre-School
TREEHOUSE Pre-School, based within the grounds of Winslow C of E School, will be holding a Family Fun and Open Day on Bank Holiday Monday, May 4, between 10.30am and 12.20pm.
