Alert over catalyic converters

editorial image

Vehicle owners are being warned to take extra care after an increased number of catalytic converter thefts in the Bicester and Banbury area.

Criminals are removing catalytic converters and selling them for the valuable metals they contain.

High-clearance vehicles such as vans and off-roaders are most likely to be targeted as they are easier to access.

Owners are advised to park vehicles in a garage if possible, or to park close to hedges or walls. Other vehicles can also be used to restrict access to vulnerable vehicles.

Security lights and CCTV can be used to deter thieves, as well as ‘cat clamps’ or ‘cat cuffs’.

Owners are advised to mark catalytic converters so they can be identified if stolen. Visit www.retainagroup.co.uk for details.
