This year’s record-breaking summer downpours did not stop Bicester scooping a silver gilt award in the Thames and Chilterns in Bloom competition.
The award presentations were held in Aylesbury on Wednesday last week.
Bicester was narrowly beaten to the trophy in the large town category by Chesham, which also won a silver gilt award.
Addressing fellow town councillors on Monday night, Lynn Pratt, chairman of Bicester’s In Bloom group, said: “I would like to thank staff very much, both indoor and outdoor, for their support for Bicester in Bloom and all the hard work that goes with it.”
Judges visited Bicester in July, looking for all-round horticultural achievement, including conservation and the preservation of natural areas.
The annual campaign is the largest horticultural event in Europe and attracts nearly 2,000 entries.
