COMMUTERS using Bicester North station are due to get extra seating in the next few years after plans to introduce trains of up to nine cars were announced by Network Rail this week.

The plans were revealed in Network Rail’s new strategic business plans for 2014-19.

Trains are set to be lengthened from seven cars to nine cars at Bicester North, Haddenham and Thame Parkway, High Wycombe and Princes Risborough.

Bicester Town Station is also mentioned in the strategic plans as forming part of the Government’s plans for a high-capacity ‘electric spine’ for freight and passengers.

Oxford, Bicester Town, Bletchley and Bedford stations would be joined with a double track as part of the route. New 25KV overhead cables are included in the plans.

Also mentioned in the Network Rail document is Chiltern Railways’ Evergreen 3 scheme to create a new Oxford to London link via Bicester, as well as the long-awaited East West Rail plan to link Bicester with towns including Aylesbury and Milton Keynes.
