Bicester residents can get involved in planning for the future of their town with a
series of events over the next six weeks.

Two new documents – the local plan and the Bicester masterplan – have just been released in draft form by Cherwell District Council.

The local plan deals with the local economy and the district as a whole, while the Bicester masterplan focuses on facilities and employment in an
expanding town.

Councillor Michael Gibbard, the council’s lead member for planning, said: “A number of comments have already been made regarding these two documents.

“I would urge those who have an interest in their content to take part in the consultation as it is their chance to have the influence they seek.”

The draft local plan aims to make sure most new homes are built in Bicester and Banbury.

Larger villages would take some homes, but building in open countryside would be strictly controlled.

The draft Bicester masterplan aims to promote a town with a broad range of job
opportunities and facilities to support an expanding population.

Six events are being held in the Bicester and Banbury area over coming weeks, giving residents a chance to see the plans in detail and make suggestions.

Council officers will also be on hand to answer questions.

All submissions made by residents will be included when the draft plans are sent off for independent examination.

The Bicester masterplan and local plan will help guide development up to at least 2031.

The first event will be held in Bodicote House on Thursday, September 13.

Bicester residents can see the plans in the eco demonstration building in Garth Park between 1pm and 6.30pm on Thursday, September 20.

Wendlebury Village Hall will host an event between 2pm and 7pm on Friday, September 21, and the John Paul II Centre in The Causeway will host an event from 10am to 4pm on Saturday, September 22.

Details will also be available at Banbury Canal Day on Sunday, October 7.
