County agrees control merger

New fire control room: Oxfordshire will go ahead with the creation of a joint control room with Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service, the county council has announced.

The joint control room, which is likely to be based in Calcot near Reading, will handle 999 calls and mobilise fire engines.

Oxon County Council said the Kidlington control room will be maintained as a fallback option.

The new control room will employ around 30 people, while both current centres employ a total of 52 people.
