A DIRECTOR of the new Brackley Community Development Trust says the group could help turn the Old Fire Station into a venue for arts and events.

Jan Dean, of Brackley Means Business, says the new trust, as a community interest company (CIC), can access sources of grant funding that Brackley Town Council cannot.

Last week, Brackley Town Council confirmed it was in negotiations with Old Fire Station owners the National Trust over the future of the building.

Mrs Dean said: “The Old Fire Station is a project we’d love to have.

“With all the work done so far, everybody would like it to be a multi-function community space.

“There could be a cinema, music, arts and history.

“The Old Fire Station is not particularly big, but there’s lots of room out back.”

She said the space behind the Old Fire Station could include a theatre or bandstand.

“As a group, we want the Old Fire Station to be managed by the town council, but we would also like to do something with it for the community,” said Mrs Dean.

“As a CIC, we can access funding from all sorts of places the town council can’t,” she added.

But Mrs Dean said any plans for the future would be on hold until the town council or the National Trust revealed their intentions for the building.

The town council has held most of its discussions regarding the Old Fire Station in private.

The National Trust says it is keen to see the building put to community use.
