Free repairs to get Bicester back in the saddle

FREE bike repairs will be on offer in Bicester this summer thanks to a new partnership between the Eco Bicester group and the Oxford Bicycle Company.

All of the drop-in repair workshops will run from 8am to 4pm. They will be held at the Glory Farm shops on Wednesday, June 20; in Sheep Street on Wednesday, July 4; and at Barberry Place in Bure Park on Monday, July 18.

The cost of labour and inexpensive parts will be covered for minor repairs or adjustments.

Cherwell District Council’s deputy leader, Councillor George Reynolds, said: “This is a perfect fit for Eco Bicester’s aspiration to get people using alternatives to the car.

“For anyone without a bike there is a loan scheme, provided as part of the Cycle for Bicester challenge just launched.

“And now anyone who owns a bike that is not in working order can get back in the saddle and enjoy some of our beautiful countryside.”

Children can also take advantage of the repair service but must be accompanied by an adult.

Dave Cozier, director of the Oxford Bike Company, said: “I’ve had a passion for bikes since I was bought one as a child.

“There are plenty of people out there who have a bike stored in their shed or garage and which they’ve not used for years or even decades.

“In most cases it will only take a short while to get them back in working order and their owners can head out in the fantastic weather we’re currently experiencing.”
