Around 70 children from Bure Park Primary School have had 3D street models judged by the developers of the North West Bicester eco town.

The children took part in a challenge to design community streets for the UK’s first eco town, hosted by A2Dominion, the lead developer of the first 393-home phase.

Year 4 classes were asked to design and make features for streets they would enjoy living in. Finished designs featured imaginative ideas including woodlands, butterfly houses, community centres and mazes.

Ella Holding, eight, said: “I enjoyed working together as a team to create the town.”

Edward Jolliffe, nine, added: “We learnt that it’s good for nature and the environment to think about energy saving elements like biomass boilers, solar panels and wind turbines.”

The winners will be announced at a school assembly later this month, and will be given garden centre vouchers so they can create their own shared green space in the school grounds.

Nicki Wise, a teacher at Bure Park Primary School, said: “It has been a fantastic way to get them thinking about how to build a strong eco-friendly community and the prize of garden centre vouchers is a great idea and will benefit the whole school.”
