A PHYSIOTHERAPIST from Bicester has been selected from among more than 250,000 applicants to work as a volunteer at the Olympic and Paralympic games in London this summer.

Stephanie Smith, founder of Pea Green Physio, will be one of around 70,000 volunteer ‘Games Makers’ who will facilitate the London Olympics. Ms Smith will use her 14 years’ experience in musculo-skeletal and sports physiotherapy to assist athletes.

She applied for the role at the end of last year after being encouraged by staff and clients.

Ms Smith said: “It’s the gold medal of my career. This is what I’ve been working towards for 14 years and it’s the opportunity of a lifetime.”

She added: “It’s a complete honour, and I’m really excited about working with Olympic athletes.”

She has started orientation training and will attend role-specific training and test events over the next few months.

Ms Smith’s practice now employs five people after she starting working in private physiotherapy in 2003.

After graduating from UWE Bristol with a degree in physiotherapy, she went on to work within the Ministry of Defence, gaining experience in military-style rehabilitation.

Two years after qualifying, she was selected to work as a senior physiotherapist for the British Gymnastics Association and has since travelled the world with Britain’s gymnastics teams as their sports physiotherapist at events such as the World Championships and the European Championships.

The business has its headquarters at Home Farm in Caversfield, Bicester. Pea Green Physio also has a second clinic at Bicester Golf and Country Club in Chesterton.

Treatments include physiotherapy, osteopathy and sports massage. Visit www.peagreenphysio.co.uk for more information.
