Relive Launton’s Jubilee celebrations with photo show

A new photographic exhibition on Launton’s celebrations to mark the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee will be held next Friday, October 5.

Official photographers Kim Benson and Nick Cherry recorded events ranging from the crowning of the Jubilee Queen in the morning to late evening fun in the Sports and Social Club.

Their work can be seen from 7pm onwards in Launton Sports and Social Club in Bicester Road.

Parish Councillor Wendy Foster, the event organiser, said: “Come along to see the photos from Kim and Nick, and bring your own photos on a flash drive, and have them included in a projection display in the Club Room.”

She added: “Entry will be free: the club bar will be open, and there will be light nibbles on offer.

“We’re inviting everyone with any links to the village to come and relive the day – the coronation of the village queen, the fun at the allotments, the teddy bear’s picnic, the opening of the Jubilee Walk, the cream teas and singing at the parish hall, and all the other events of the day.”

“We want to wrap up the Jubilee with this event, and give everyone in Launton the chance to bring their own photos along to give a full jigsaw of the one day of the Diamond Jubilee holiday when the rain held off.

“We’re also trying to work out a way for people to request a digital file from the photographers so they can have a permanent record of the day – their own special Jubilee memory.”
