Summer challenge for Bicester youths
STUDENTS from the Bicester area can give themselves a head start this summer with a programme of free events.
The Summer Challenge, open to 16 and 17 year olds from Oxfordshire, aims to improve skills and offer young people new experiences.
Activities are funded by the Government’s National Citizen Service (NCS).
Ryan Johnson, NCS Co-ordinator for Oxfordshire County Council, said: “The idea is to bring young people from different backgrounds together to meet new people, challenge themselves and try out new things, while giving them the opportunity to make a difference in their own communities and most importantly have fun.”
A total of 105 places are up for grabs.
An induction will take place on Thursday, July 26, which will include laser gaming and a high ropes day trip. From July 30, a five-day residential trip will include activities such as surfing, rock-climbing and gorge-walking.
In August, participants will develop a social project in their community, involving anything from arts and creative media to music performance and sport.
Participants will also be invited to a Volunteering and Opportunity Fair in October.
Parent or guardian consent is required.
