Village calls for B430 crossing

Ardley residents are ‘crossing’ their fingers as they call for a safe new spot to get across the busy B430.
Oxfordshire County Council (OCC) is now considering plans for a puffin crossing – like a pelican crossing, but with special detectors for pedestrians – on the main 40mph route through Ardley.
There is no formal crossing to link the two halves of the village at present.
Councillor Jon O’Neill, an Ardley resident and district council member for the Caversfield ward, said: “This would be really good news for the village.
“There’s definitely a need for such a crossing, especially as the traffic flow is increasing.”
He said Ardley with Fewcott Parish Council had worked hard to highlight the issue, and said he was pleased OCC recognised the need for a crossing.
“I really hope this achieves a positive outcome,” he added.
Councillor O’Neill said there were 15 homes next to the B430 with children wanting to use Ardley’s new play park, as well as students who need to use school buses twice a day.
The new crossing would be on the B430 Station Road, just north of the junction with Somerton Road.
Plans include the installation of four street light columns on or near the new crossing, a new length of pavement to link up with the puffin crossing, and the resurfacing of 60m of road.
Ardley with Fewcott Parish Council is also encouraging villagers to call on OCC to lower the speed limit from 40mph to 30mph.
