Young people have been making their mark in Bicester town centre with the help of an Oxford artist.
Creative types aged 11 to 18 took over an empty shop unit in Crown Walk for a day of drawing and mark-making organised by the OYAP Trust. They were joined by artist Sam Hamper, who helped them turn the empty shop into a colourful, vibrant space.
Participants adorned the walls and windows of the old butcher’s shop with their ideas – from drawings and inspirational messages to their personal hopes and dreams for Bicester.
Laura Hamlet, project co-ordinator for OYAP Trust, said: “The event was an opportunity for young people to take ownership of their town and do something very visible it was a chance for them to literally make a mark in their local community.”
The project is part of a pilot creative youth action project, developed by OYAP Trust, and funded by Sanctuary Housing, The Big Lottery Fund, Cherwell District Council and Bicester Town Council.
