A BUCKINGHAM bowls club will soon have its much needed extension thanks to funding from the Big Lottery Fund.

Chandos Park Bowls Club received around £10,000 from the fund to extend its clubhouse and work started last week.

The extension will enable the club to hold larger tournaments and will double its capacity.

Bob Reynolds, from the bowls club said the fund was awarded last March and since then the club has been gaining its planning permissions.

He said: “It’s an extension of the original clubhouse which was built ten years ago. The clubhouse at that time wasn’t built to specification and we are extending it now to what it should have been.

“The clubhouse is too small and we can only get 40 to 50 people in. By the time it is built, we hope to get double that in.”

The grant is expected to cover nearly the whole cost of the extension.

The work is being carried out by Buckingham building firm owned by bowls club member Paul Seymour.

Work is expected to be completed within six weeks.
