BUCKINGHAM’S own celebrity guitarist is starring in a fundraising concert to celebrate the re-opening of the Radcliffe Centre next month.

Tickets are already on sale for An Evening With Bernie Marsden with his acoustic band and guests, on Friday and Saturday, March 2 and 3.

Buckingham-born Bernie, who is well known as a former member of Whitesnake, has recently seen the release of his own Paul Reed Smith signature guitar.

The classic-shaped guitar with an Antique Sunburst finish has Bernie’s name across the headstock and retails for less than £600.

Bernie said: “I was honoured to be asked by PRS if I’d like to do a signature model. I wanted to have an affordable guitar with my name on it.

“The quality is exceptional but they’re affordable. The first batch released sold out immediately.”

It’s a busy time for Bernie, who has just been made a patron of a cross-parliamentary project called Rock The House, aimed at encouraging young musicians to play. Fellow patrons include rock stars Alice Cooper and Deep Purple frontman Ian Gillan.

He’s recently home from making a film documentary on Clarksdale, Mississippi, the historic home of the blues,.

“Clarksdale has very similar overtones to me as Buckingham did when I was a kid,” said Bernie, who is currently working on a memoir for publication this year.

Tickets for An Evening With Bernie Marsden are £15 in advance from The Duke’s Music, in Market Hill, Buckingham, from reception at the University of Buckingham or online from Bernie’s website at www.berniemarsden.co.uk
