Spurred on by success, band saddles up for winter show

WINSLOW Concert Band rides into town on Saturday, February 25, for its annual winter concert at Winslow Public Hall.

Wild West movie enthusiasts can don their stetsons and spurs to relive the Hollywood epic era, as the band will be devoting the whole of the first half of the concert to music from Wild West classics such as Blazing Saddles, Apache and Dances With Wolves, Paint Your Wagon ,The Magnificent Seven and How The West Was Won.

In the second half, fans of the big band sound are invited to get ‘In The Mood’ with Glen Miller as well as enjoying arrangements of other big band classics for which the Winslow Concert Band is justly renowned.

At last year’s Armed Forces Day in Aylesbury, the band had the privilege of accompanying the spectacular RAF flypast with a spirited rendition of the Dambusters March. Later in the year, the band featured on the same bill as Jools Holland at Waddesdon Manor’s MAD Festival.

Charitable performances are an important part of the band’s activities. This year it is supporting Macmillan nurses, and raised nearly £700 during its Christmas carol concerts. New members are always welcome. Call Alison on 01525 758178.

The concert is at 7.30pm. Tickets from 01280 817947, 07734 102538 and The Duke’s Music in Buckingham.
